While working as a lead visual designer for Portland Oregon's iconic bookstore, Powell's Books, I illustrated a series of posters for the back of their store maps, yes the store is that big! I came up with a concept of using books as dwellings within Oregon's natural landmarks in the aesthetic of old travel posters. Starting with a thumbnail sketch, I'd then draw the pen and ink illustration, and bring that into Illustrator to create the final graphic. This went on to spawn a successful line of merchandise, and was followed by a second series of posters that focused more on the act of reading within areas around the city of Portland.
